John Slavik

John Slavik is an award-winning sculptor whose art has been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout the U.S. Slavik uses wood, steel, iron, bronze and a bit of paint to translate a magical moment with nature into a small enigmatic sculpture or mold his feelings into tall, powerful forms "ready to burst through a doorway."

"My art," says Slavik, "is literally my life. I fabricate, cast, paint and work with any material."

He believes in what could be described as the grand scheme: the cycle, the interconnection of what is and what will be. "My work is an expression of my consciousness, reflecting the true nature of how I feel about my life. It acts as a catharsis to express all my emotions painful as well as uplifting," he says. "If the work is accepted as purely aesthetic so be it, but if you are able to connect with me, through form into meaning, so much the better."

Slavik says his ideas come from "those little moments, those sparks. When you have moments you want to relish and keep, you either take a picture, write a poem, story, or make a piece of art. Each of my pieces is a reflection of that moment, reached infrequently, but locked and preserved. All my insights, my family and friends are also food for my art."
